Meet Kelly

January 27, 2017

Our very own Kelly Prieve has been chosen as our BuildThis employee this month. We’ve asked her to answer some questions to get to know her and share what she brings to the team.

Q:  What is your position at BuildThis?
A:  Executive Vice President
Q:  When did you start at BuildThis?
A:  May of 2013
Q:  Hometown?
A:  Technically Edina, Minnesota, but I moved all over the country growing up.
Q:  Where did you go to college?
A:  Columbia College Chicago
Q:  What did you study in college?
A:  Creative Nonfiction writing.  And no, that’s not an oxymoron!

Q:  How did you land at BuildThis?

A: I had just turned down a full-time job at the super corporate, global company I was interning at and set out to get some sales experience.  I was also planning a three month backpacking trip so I wasn’t looking for anything serious.  I took on a commission-based sales summer internship with Hans in the very beginning stages of BuildThis (who had advertised pizza and beer on Fridays), but it was only a couple of weeks before I realized this was more than just a summer gig.  I confessed my travel plans to Hans and he told me to go!  I was promoted to Sales Manager shortly after I got back and every year since has gotten better and better!

Q: What do you like most about what you do at BuildThis?

A:  The trust and respect we all have for one another is just incredible – and I think that boils down to how hard we all work.  Any project or meeting I go into, I never have to worry that the person I’m collaborating with won’t bring their value and share of ideas to the table.

Q: Which 3 characters (TV, Movies, Books, anything) best describe you?

A: Leslie Knope, Albus Dumbledore, & Sgt. Tibbs

Q: If I wasn’t ____ (Executive Vice President) I’d be _______.

A: If I wasn’t with BuildThis, I’d be the person who judges hotels to decide whether or not they earn their 5th star.  That’d be ideal, at least!  Realistically, I’d be in a similar role somewhere within the service industry.  I enjoy ‘smoothing things out’ for people and solving problems, and I love being surrounded by creatives!
