Nobody enjoys visiting an out-of-date website because it most likely means that you also have an out-of-date brand and business. Your website is often the first impression someone has of your company (we particularly like the blast from the past Warner Brother’s ‘You’ve Got Mail’ website from 1998!).
As a business owner, it can feel like a daunting task to A.) build a great and effective website and B.) keep it looking great and working effectively.
We put together a few easy ways to keep your website looking up to date.
How To Keep My Website Updated
1.) Use a CMS
What is a CMS? A CMS is a content management system and is a computer application that supports the creation and modification of digital content by multiple users. A few examples of content management systems are WordPress (our personal favorite), Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, Magento, Joomla, Drupal and Adobe Muse. The reason that using a CMS makes it easy to keep your website updated is because they have administrative panels that allow anyone to make updates themselves instead of relying on a knowledgeable developer to make changes and there is absolutely no coding required. BuildThis uses WordPress which is used by over 28% of all the websites on the internet and by 59% of all websites using a known CMS.
2.) Include A Blog (and keep it up to date!)
Why blog? A blog is a great way to stay on the good side of search engines. By constantly adding fresh content to your website you are literally fueling for good SEO. It gets organic traffic flowing through your site and not to mention people love sharing informative content on social media.
3.) Keep Up With Current Trends
Building a website is not a one and done kind of job and the sooner you think of it more of an evolving project than a box you can check off the better off you will be. Read our blog on the top 2018 web design trends we’re predicting here.
4.) Add Testimonials Frequently
Adding testimonials from your clients or customers is a fantastic (and easy!) way to add some fresh content to your site. Customers who love your work will always be happy to be featured on your website!
5.) Add New Photos and Graphics
Update your photos regularly! It’s a great way to train your customers to know that your website is not static and to check back regularly for updates.
